'The team was captioned by Tracey' - more typos from the local news

Here is the final instalment of typos and spell-checker malfunctions revealed in supplied copy sent in by sports stringers to the Chichester Observer series and the Petersfield Post.

Sports editor Ben Steppel and his colleague Nick Collins collected their own file of errors that raised a smile in their office - to share with HTFP readers.

Felpham began to assert themselves in midfield and Laura Dibley bounced to equalise.

After counseling the linesman the goal was eventually denied by the referee.

Horsham cashed in with two consolation tries, but intelligent use of the bench snuffed out any further threat.

[the ball] was finally slotted home in a goalmouth mangle.

Ashford scored a conciliation goal with minutes to go.

In the second half Chichester stepped through the years and firing on all cylinders dominated the game.

With a full squad it was going to be a tough match but with only 11 available a Herculaneum* effort was required.

Our thanks go to Robert for his tiresome efforts over the last few years, and we will sorely miss him on the committee.

First away was Richard Moore, who having run three tremendous stages the previous week proved equally reliable on one leg.

Portsmouth couldn't quite gain the impetuous they needed to score a total in excess of 275.

Captioned by Tracey Kewell, they not only won the tournament...

And finally, despite the obvious first-class subbing, this line from the Petersfield Post actually made it into print, and was sent in by an eagle-eyed reader:
"Ingrid also said that she wanted to get a dog, preferably a Cocker Spaniel or a Datsun."

    (* Look it up !)
