Curran on PCC panel to appoint new director

Regional editor and former president of the Society of Editors, Ed Curran has been named on the interview panel which will help appoint the new director of the Press Complaints Commission.

The Belfast Telegraph editor, who is also a member of the Commission, will represent the newspaper industry along with Daily Mail's executive managing editor Robin Esser, who is chairman of the parliamentary and legal committee of the Society of Editors.

Sir Christopher Meyer announced the members of the interview panel, which will comprise five people - three of whom are independent from the newspaper and magazine industry.

Ed and Robin will join Sir Christopher, the two most senior lay Commissioners, Bishop John Waine and Prof Robert Pinker - the former Acting Chairman - on the panel.

The interviews will take place in the first week of March and the appointment should be announced by the middle of that month.
