Latest resolved complaints dealt with by the PCC

The majority of complaints made to the Press Complaints Commission, which raise a possible breach of the Code of Practice, are resolved directly between the Commission's staff, editors and complainants.

These are either settled to the express satisfaction of the complainant following some remedial action by the editor or are not pursued by complainants following an explanation or other response from the publication.

Below are summaries of the latest complaints involving the regional press which fall into the first category.

Portsmouth News
Mr J B Cowie, of Portsmouth, complained that the details of a court report concerning his daughter were inaccurate and the inclusion of a photograph of her was misleading. (Clause 1)
Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the newspaper sent the complainant a private letter of apology.

Sunday Mercury
Chief Inspector Steve Glover, of West Midlands Police, complained that an article about the death of a young man was inaccurate in stating that police officers involved in the incident had been interviewed by investigating colleagues. (Clause 1)
Resolution: The matter was resolved when the newspaper published a statement making clear that the police officers involved had only submitted initial reports on the incident at the time the article was published.
