The majority of complaints made to the Press Complaints Commission, which raise a possible breach of the Code of Practice, are resolved directly between the Commission's staff, editors and complainants.
These are either settled to the express satisfaction of the complainant following some remedial action by the editor or are not pursued by complainants following an explanation or other response from the publication.
Below are summaries of the latest complaints involving the regional press which fall into the first category.
Evening Times (Glasgow)
Gerry King, chairman of The Celtic Boys Club, complained that an article was inaccurate when it stated that a boy from his club was sent off four times during a football match. He stated that the boy concerned actually played for a team called Celtic South. (Clause 1)
Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a letter from the complainant.
Evening Standard
Richard Bowker, chairman and chief executive of the Strategic Rail Authority, complained that an article was inaccurate when it stated that his comments made in a separate interview were "the final insult". The complainant was concerned that this quotation was not attributed to any source. (Clause 1)
Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a clarification on the matter explaining that the words "the final insult" were their own opinion and not a quote from an upset passenger or industry observer.
