Newspaper watchdog wants to meet the public

The Press Complaints Commission is holding a free open day next month.

The event is open to both journalists and members of the public to discover more about the work of the PCC.

The day will be split into two parts with a surgery followed by a Q&A with senior experts from the Commission.

During the surgery visitors will be able to have a private and informal chat with staff from the PCC about the print media or make a complaint about a newspaper.

There will also be information available about the Commission to take away.

After the surgery a panel of experts will open themselves up for questions.

The panel includes PCC chairman and John Major's former press secretary Sir Christopher Meyer, Vivien Hepworth who is a public member of the Commission and PCC director Tim Toulmin.

There will also be a representative from the newspaper industry on the panel.

The open day starts at 2.30pm on February 19 at Leeds Town Hall.

Although tickets are not required, anyone wishing to go is asked to contact Tonia Milton on e-mail tonia.milton@pcc.org.uk or call 0207 831 0022.
