Weekly newspaper series sets 100 per cent accuracy target

A south-east weekly series is striving for 100 per cent in its stories – and is calling on readers to help.

Simon Irwin, editorial director of The Kent Messenger Group, is appealing for readers to tell him personally about errors in its new 'Get It Right' campaign.

  • Simon said: "I have set myself up as a readers' editor and we're trying to encourage reader interaction.

"If we had something that's wrong, readers will contact the editor.

"What I'm trying to do is get the mistakes that people know are wrong but they're not quite urged to contact us about them.

"Things that might annoy them but they won't bother telling us.

"I am not saying we have a big problem with mistakes – we just want to be a bit better than everybody else.

"The Kent Messenger Group has always taken great pride in the accuracy and fairness of its reporting.

"We are now going to try even harder to get it right."

The group estimates that more than a million people read its newspapers and magazines per week while its website – www.kentonline.co.uk – attracts more than three million page impressions a month.

The Get It Right campaign has been launched in the latest editions of the Messenger Group's papers and on their website.
