Newspaper's £1m appeal aims to help kids through confusion of bereavement

The Worcester News is running a £1m appeal to help a charity which provides vital support to bereaved children.

'Towards A Brighter Future' was launched in aid of the Worcester-based charity the Noah's Ark Trust.

The appeal aims to buy a property in the heart of Worcester that can become the new home for Noah's Ark, which would also house a drop-in centre and support for youngsters who cannot attend the residential weekends it currently runs at the Malvern Outdoor Centre.

Worcester News editor Kevin Ward said: "We are giving people the chance to make sure the charity can expand its services and help even more children through the dark and confusing times that follow the death of a parent or loved one.

"We know that raising £1m is a huge task. But every little will help and we are always astounded by the generosity of our readers."

The appeal was launched with a series of daily features focusing on the charity's work and some of the children it has helped. The newspaper's website has a section devoted to the appeal.

Gabby Beddows, head of operations at Noah's Ark, said: "We are very excited to be working with a well-respected newspaper like the Worcester News. It's our best way to reach the heart of the community and it's a great challenge for the new year."
