A campaign named after a local council leader has scored a success for the Bucks Free Press.
The paper was fighting a series of proposed car parking price hikes in and around High Wycombe.
But Councillor Lesley Clarke and her colleagues at Wycombe District Council sat up and took notice of the hundreds of angry readers who added their voices to their
Let us park, Mrs Clarke! campaign.
The changes would have seen some long stay charges double to £10, which many feared would price them out of town.
As soon as the campaign went live, e-mails and letters bombarded the Bucks Free Press, with angry town centre workers and shoppers adding their names to the petition.
The Free Press team even hit the streets of Wycombe to recruit members of the public to wear specially-made campaign T-shirts as a show of solidarity.
The council finally announced that the people had been listened to.
While it still intends to raise prices, the worst hikes have been reduced - and the controversial £10 charge has fallen to £7.50.
