Memorial boost from EADT as fund targets £100,000

A campaign to establish a memorial to nine British soldiers killed while serving in Afghanistan has received a fresh boost from the East Anglian Daily Times, with a series of interviews and articles.

The campaign, which began in summer 2007, first aimed to raise £30,000 towards a memorial fund, but with such strong support continuing to be shown the 1st Royal Anglian Afghanistan Memorial fund target has since grown to £100,000.

The parents of an Essex soldier, Private John Trumble, who was killed in Afghanistan in August 2007, were pleased that the East Anglian Daily Times had become involved in such a campaign and say it is time for a permanent memorial.

Speaking to the EADT, Stephen and Pearle Trumble, said they were 100 per cent behind the campaign and were sure that their son would have also shown his support.

The memorial fund was initially set up to honour fallen British soldiers in the Afghanistan conflict. It continues to raise money and awareness, supporting families across Suffolk and Essex who have been affected by the impact of the war.
