Echo aiming to help readers Make A Fresh Start

The Northern Echo has launched a campaign to make people more aware of the forthcoming ban on smoking in public places - and encourage people to give up the habit.

The Make A Fresh Start campaign is charting how the region is readying itself for the ban on July 1.

And as well as in-paper publicity, acting as a countdown to the big day, a special section of its website has been devoted to the campaign, featuring advice and features.

Reporter Lauren Pyrah is writing a blog about her attempts to give up smoking, and weekly videos are being produced to help smokers conquer their habit.

In a joint initiative between The Echo and the local primary care trusts, Clean Air Awards will also be awarded to companies and organisations which take part in the campaign.
