Paper raises £70,000 as it bids to save hospice care service

The Cambridge Evening News has raised more than £70,000 in just two months to save a vital service which cares for sick people at home.

A week-long series of stories focusing on patients and staff launched the hard-hitting Hospice at Home Appeal in August after health chiefs decided to cut funding for the service.

Support and donations have flooded in from readers and the city's mayor organised a concert to boost the coffers.

Reporters have even pitched in by offering to do jobs in return for donations.
