Newspaper launches sea safety campaign
SEASIDE safety chiefs have thrown their backing behind a campaign unveiled by the Skegness Standard.
The paper's campaign, entitled Seasafe, will run throughout the holiday season with one simple aim - to ensure everyone knows the rules of the coast when they hit the beach to enjoy the summer sun.
Skegness Standard editor John Cowpe said: "We are launching Seasafe because of the never-ending flow of summer callouts which see the lifeboat crews, lifeguards, coastguards and Coastwatch volunteers chasing after people who get swept out to sea on inflatables or lose track of their children on our busy beaches.
"We want to help people realise, while they have a super holiday in Skegness, to also stop for a moment to take notice of a few simple safety tips to prevent these things from happening."
Seasafe was launched on Wednesday, May 25, in the run-up to what is expected to be one of the busiest weekends in the coastal calendar - Spring Bank Holiday.
The campaign will include the distribution of advice leaflets aimed at children, produced by The Standard and endorsed by East Lindsey District Council, the Coastguards, the RNLI and the National Coastwatch Institution.
We will also take a closer look at the work of these organisations as the campaign develops.
Boston and Skegness MP Mark Simmonds said: "I am supporting this summer's Seasafe campaign.
"I think it is important families visiting Skegness and Ingoldmells take sensible precautions when using inflatables in the sea."
