Fears over spiked drinks have led the South London Press to mount a massive give-away of drugs testing kits.

Its Safe and Sound campaign, to help people guard against the risk of drug rape, is giving away 200 of the kits, which test for the presence of three substances most commonly used in such cases.

As well as producing a range of 'party safe' tips, the South London Press will be carrying a series of articles and advice in the run-up to Christmas.

It will examine drink-spiking in pubs and clubs, the dangers of drug rape, illegal minicabs, and the work of projects like the police's Operation Sapphire, which looks at drug rape and victim care.

Reporter Zoe Walker told readers: "With a bit of forethought it's possible to minimize drug rape, remembering that not all drinks are spiked with a sexual assault motive in mind.

"Motives can include revenge, theft or just malice.

"Men are at risk too. It's something that we all need to think about."
