Breast cancer appeal fund hits £200,000 target

A Breast Cancer Appeal launched by the Eastern Daily Press has hit its £200,000 target in under a year.

Generous donations included an anonymous £50,000 cheque, which propelled takings forward and contributed to an early start on the unit.

EDP west editor, Chris Bishop, said: "I never doubted we'd do it, but the speed with which our appeal to build a new breast care unit soared past its target astonished us all.

"Within a few months, it will be making a vital difference to the lives of thousands of women, making the worst experience that bit more bearable."

Following its initial progress, the appeal received further backing from editor Peter Franzen, who devoted time and space to push the campaign.

Reporter Laura Devlin pieced together a series of case studies and features, in an attempt to raise the profile of the appeal.
