The Driffield Times has launched a campaign to encourage more civic pride in the town, following an increase in serious crime and vandalism.
Calls from readers telling of their concern and disgust in the rise of car crime, muggings and vandalism have prompted the paper to launch the We're proud of Driffield initiative.
Editor of the East Yorkshire weekly, Dennis Sissons, said the town has had enough.
And launching the campaign on the front page of the paper, he told readers: "We want everyone to stand up for the town and bang the drum for everything that is good about the Capital of the Wolds.
"Don't let them get away with it. Report any incidents or suspicious characters to the police or other authorities. Do nothing and nothing gets done.
"Stand up for Driffield - be proud of your town."
The campaign has already won the backing of the town's MPs, local councillors, and police.
Insp David Frost, head of Driffield police, told the paper: "I hope the initiative is a big success.
"The community needs to pull together and make a stand against the trouble-makers. It will be encouraging if people can band together."
