Post campaign drums up support for theatre

The Knaresborough Post has launched a year-long campaign to give the town's Frazer Theatre a facelift.

LIFT OFF – Let's Improve the Frazer Theatre – Our Fighting Fund! aims to raise awareness and funds for the facility and has been backed by the town's mayor and the local MP.

Knaresborough Post chief reporter Maggie Gell said: "It's going very well. We are trying to give the theatre as much publicity as we can.

"We will be covering fundraising events and keeping people updated.

"The theatre needs a hefty refurbishment programme. There is no official financial target but the main thing is to get enough money to create disabled access to the theatre and new seats.

"We try and support worthy local causes as and when the need arises and we thought this would be a good one especially as the mayor has chosen it as her charity for the year.

"The Knaresborough Players bought the theatre about 20 years ago and it is quite a unique facility that's got a bit of character. It is a well used amenity in the town."

Maggie said local MP Phil Willis had taken an active role in supporting the campaign by organising a fundraising evening at the theatre.
