Thousands raised in T&A's colourful bid to save City

The Telegraph & Argus has raised £235,000 in just six weeks to help save Bradford City Football Club from closure.

The newspaper's Save Our City appeal has a target of £250,000 and expects to reach that figure by the time the new football season kicks off on August 7.

More than £90,000 of the money was raised at a Pro-Celebrity All Stars match organised by the T&A in which former City legends, TV personalities, pop stars and even one of the district's MPs played in aid of the financially-stricken club.

Almost 10,000 people turned up to watch the match and dozens of local companies helped the fund-raising efforts by sponsoring the action minute by minute.

Thousands of pounds was also raised through a 'Claret & Amber Day' (the club's colours), which was organised by the T&A.

Dozens of local businesses, schools and other organisations donned the club colours for the day and paid for the privilege.

And the T&A joined in the fun as its front page (above) got a unique new look for the day.

Editor Perry Austin-Clarke said: "We're absolutely delighted with the response from our readers.

"They have shown just how much it means to this district to keep its professional football club alive and have been enormously generous in their fund-raising efforts.

"To be so close to our £250,000 target in just six weeks is little short of amazing."
