Don't rubbish Cheltenham, says Echo

Businesses who clean up their act are to be rewarded with a special 'seal of approval', as part of an anti-litter campaign being backed by the Gloucestershire Echo.

Clean-up campaigners for Don't Rubbish Cheltenham are awarding 3,000 stickers to shops, pubs and restaurants who make a considered effort to keep their frontages tidy.

Businesses can qualify for a 'seal of approval' by showing how they make an effort to tidy up the outside of their premises, such as scrubbing entrances or pavements, or litter-picking in the street.

The stickers are the latest push in the Don't Rubbish Cheltenham campaign, which was launched in May by the Cheltenham Tidy Group, and is backed by the Gloucestershire Echo.

It was launched following concerns that dog fouling, fly tipping and car dumping have turned areas of Cheltenham into a rubbish dump and aims to make Cheltenham the tidiest town in Britain by 2005.

To keep the campaign momentum going the Echo is running stories about the campaign's progress and is keeping a chronological record in a specially dedicated section of its website.
