Preparing to name and shame

The Manchester Evening News has launched its annual anti-drink drive campaign.

Each year during the run up to Christmas and the New Year the paper names and shames local people convicted of drink driving.

The move is designed to highlight the danger of drinking and driving and is being supported by police.

This year, motorists who appear before magistrates on drink-drive related charges at Manchester and Salford courts, will have their names and addresses published in the Manchester Evening News, together with details of the charge and sentence they receive.

Three people were named by the paper on the day of the campaign's launch.

The Manchester paper is also warning readers to be especially aware of the dangers of "morning after" driving, when they could still be over the limit.
