One of Liverpool's most historic buildings has enjoyed a facelift as a result of the Echo's Stop the Rot initiative - and has become the first landmark to be removed from the paper's 'hit list'.
St Peter's Church in Seel Street has undergone major refurbishment work inside and out.
It is a result of the Echo campaign, which brought together some of the biggest movers and shakers in the property world to breathe new life into buildings which had become eyesores or derelict in the city centre area. It was to stop the city falling into decay and is starting to make good progress, with work under way at seven other buildings.
As St Peter's was removed from the Stop the Rot forum list, Coun Mike Storey said: "This campaign has raised public awareness of what needs to be done in the city."
Bishop of Liverpool the Rt Rev James Jones, added: "Particularly in light of the Capital of Culture bid, for those buildings which remain an eyesore, there needs to be a concerted effort by everyone to ensure that these buildings change."
Other buildings are to be added to the 'hit list' as work is encouraged in other areas.
