"Just £2 each could net £1m"

The Derby Evening Telegraph has launched an ambitious campaign to raise £1m for cancer treatment.

And the paper has pointed out that if the 550,000 people of southern Derbyshire gave just £2 each, it would hit its target.

The Evening Telegraph wants to ensure hospitals have the life-saving equipment which would save families the added trauma of travelling for treatment.

And its Magic Million campaign to raise the £1m will run for two years.

Editor Mike Norton said: "An extra million pounds' worth of equipment would benefit everyone who undergoes treatment for cancer in Derby.

"To raise the Magic Million, we need the help of everyone in Derbyshire and are appealing to individuals, pubs, schools and businesses to get involved in fund-raising events.

"The campaign is born out of the former Magic Appeal charity, which raised money to help people with gastro-intestinal cancer.

"Now, in conjunction with the Evening Telegraph, the Magic Million will raise funds to pay for the treatment of all types of cancer.

"One million pounds may seem like a huge sum - but it equates to just £2 for every person who lives in Southern Derbyshire."

A key incentive for people to hand over money to the campaign is that all the money raised will stay in Derby to treat local people.

Mike said: "We are asking everyone to get involved in the Magic Million Appeal because a small amount of money from a lot of people can make a big difference."
