Paper's demand will be met

The key demand of a long-running campaign by The Argus is about to be met by Brighton and Hove City Council.

For the past year the council has been drawing up a map of showing every mobile phone mast in Brighton and Hove as part of the paper's Put Masts On The Map campaign.

Finishing touches are now being made to the map, which will be published on the council's website shortly.

The map will show the location of each mast but will not give individual details on each one.

Coun Jenny Barnard-Langston said: "This is good news. It has been a long time coming and it shows how hard the public has to work to persuade the council - who are actually our servants - to take action.

"It also shows how a community newspaper can get things done.

"We have to wait and see what the map looks like and what is missing from it but it is a start."

The campaign by the Argus began two years ago after the paper was inundated with requests from concerned readers worried about mast siting and safety.
