The Mid Devon Star's Fields of Hope appeal with Marie Curie Cancer Care has passed the £4,000-mark.
In the two months since launching the appeal to raise £5,000 to pay for Marie Curie nursing hours, there has been a tremendous response from individuals people, families, groups and businesses.
The fundraising office for Marie Curie, based at Marie Curie House in Tiverton, receives many donations in the post every week.
">Star reporter Helen Rossiter with appeal fundraising manager Donna Statham Due to the continuing success of the appeal, the Star has decided to work towards a new target of £10,000 to take the appeal into 2004, which will pay for 666 nursing hours for people suffering from cancer in Mid Devon.
To kick-off the campaign in October, some 2,500 special wild daffodils were planted along the River Culm between Culmstock and Uffculme. The daffodil represents a symbol of hope for people with cancer. The idea is that when in flower, the daffodils will create a truly memorable "field of hope".
Although some people have made donations, others have sponsored a daffodil in memory of a loved one and recorded their thoughts in a Book of Remembrance.
The appeal will be highlighted in February, when a service of remembrance will take place.
