Liverpool's Daily Post is celebrating victory for its Fight for a Flight campaign.
For the past three months the newspaper has been calling for the Liverpool to London air link to be restored - and it is understood that Belgian airline VLM now plans to set up a service which will fly five times a day from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to London's City Airport.
The announcement of the new service, which is due to start in the New Year, comes just days after Daily Post editor Jane Wolstenholme presented a Fight for a Fight dossier, containing almost 10,000 signatures, to transport minister Dr Kim Howells.
The editor travelled to Westminster after readers sent in their messages of support for the campaign by filling in coupons in the paper or visiting its website.
And welcoming the move by VLM, Jane said the news showed what could be achieved when people pull together.
But she warned that the people of Merseyside would now have to 'use it or lose it' to ensure the service continued to run.
