The Evening Advertiser is already a third of the way to reaching its £600,000 target for the Swindon Cancer Appeal - just eight months into the three-year campaign.
The appeal, to fund specialist cancer nurses for the people of Swindon and Marlborough, kicked off in March with an £80,000 from Swindon-based Nationwide.
Since then hundreds of people have pitched in to organise events and donate cash. Heads have been shaved, dogs walked and concerts and coffee mornings held to help reach the target.
One such event was a grand sporting dinner with guest speaker, Portsmouth Football Club manager Harry Redknapp (pictured), which raised £5,000.
In addition, the Advertiser's website thisiswiltshire.co.uk is auctioning off a quad bike in aid of the appeal. Bidding, which is due to continue until November 28, reached £500 after just two days.
Money from the appeal will provide the people of Swindon and Marlborough with two additional Macmillan nurses, who will be based at the Great Western Hospital. The appeal will also provide a consultant in palliative care, and all three posts will be funded for three years.
