Post to name and shame smugglers

Smugglers convicted of importing illegal drugs to Jersey are to be named and shamed throughout the UK in a new initiative.

The Jersey Evening Post is teaming up with the island's customs department in a bid to deter crime.

The volume and value of illegal drugs being brought into the island has escalated to a level that has prompted Jersey Customs to work with the Post and other local media, including radio stations.

Information circulated will be based on reports by the Evening Post, and will involve issuing statements through a PR agency to local media in the UK.

It is a bid to deter potential drug smugglers from targeting Jersey - and to increase awareness of the tough new law enforcement policies in place.
