The Bristol Evening Post's Let's Bring Her Home campaign has ended in success, with the news that the last Concorde ever to be built is on its way to Filton.
The newspaper launched it campaign to bring Concorde 216 back to Bristol - where it was designed, built and tested - in April.
It called for the supersonic jet to be returned to its 'historical birthplace', and won the backing of leading figures including Airbus and Sir David Frost, Britain's most frequent Concorde flier.
It also won the support of more than 8,000 readers who signed and returned coupons printed in the paper or signed an online petition on its website.
Concorde 216 is now due to return to Filton at the end of the month, and will become the centrepiece of a new aviation heritage museum which is to be built on Filton airfield.
A similar campaign by the Hull Daily Mail, to bring a Concorde to the Yorkshire Air Museum, has been unsuccessful. Three other Concordes retiring to Britain will make their homes at Manchester airport, the Museum of Flight near Edinburgh and Heathrow airport.Back to the campaigns index
