"We did it!", says Leader

The Ayrshire Leader has hit a target of £12,500 for its local hospital.

Readers answered its call to donate money to fund a state-of-the-art intensive care unit bed for the Ayrshire and Arran Acute Hospitals Trust - and reached the target in 15 weeks.

Editor Scott Barr and his team of reporters attended every possible event - day or night - in support of the appeal, and even hosted their own radio show to boost the sum.

Trust deputy chief executive Jill Young said: "We are indebted to Scott and his staff at the Ayrshire Leader for their enthusiasm and commitment in launching this appeal."

The Archant-owned newspaper organised lunches, activities, raffles and collections, orchestrating the push by readers to add thousands of pounds to the appeal.
