An Evening Express appeal to raise cash for a hospital eye department has received a superb response in its first few weeks.
The push was launched because it was feared people were losing their sight because they were not treated quickly enough at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Specialists claimed the department was stretched to breaking point because of a shortage of space, equipment and staff.
The Fighting for Sight appeal aims to raise £1m for an extension to the wards, to buy new equipment and take on more staff.
After the appeal launch, eye specialist Prof John Forrester told a meeting attended by medical staff and members of the Scottish Parliament: "It's been superb that we have had such an excellent response from both the public and staff in the department - not just the clinicians but theatre staff and ward staff and from all levels."
