The last waltz?

A campaign to safeguard the future of more than 5,000 young musicians in Bromley has been launched by the News Shopper.

The future of the Bromley Youth Music Trust is hanging in the balance after the local education authority announced plans to cut its grant, and possibly cut funding all together in the next four years.

This would leave 5,600 musicians in the area with nowhere to play by 2005.

Director of the music trust, Peter Mawson, said: "If this is carried out, it will be the end for the Bromley Youth Music Trust.

"We have already suffered several cuts but have maintained our excellent breadth and depth of musical provision. The reductions planned will sink us altogether."
