Maggie's appeal reaches new heights

The Glasgow Evening Times' Maggie's Centre Appeal total has topped the £400,000-mark.

Since the appeal was launched in March, the paper's readers have helped to raise money to build Glasgow's first dedicated cancer care centre.

The appeal is now just £100,000 from its target, and all the money raised will help to build the centre, equip it and keep it staffed for the first year.

Fundraising for the appeal is continuing, with many readers donating money in memory of someone they have lost to cancer.

A sponsored trek across the Namibian desert is also planned for this month, and the paper is now asking its readers to pull out all the stops to reach the £500,000 target before Christmas.

  • The appeal has attracted the support of celebrities like patron JK Rowling, broadcaster Kirsty Wark and actress Elaine C Smith.
