Pride - and joy - in Weston

A local council has adopted a newspaper campaign to promote pride in a seaside town and improve the resort.

North Somerset Council has come on board to promote the Weston & Somerset Mercury's Pride in Our Town campaign.

The council has set up six initiatives:

  • Keep It Clean, tackling litter;
  • Blooming Beautiful, to encourage planting;
  • Scrub Graffiti;
  • Right Time, to make sure public clocks are working properly;
  • Street Watch, to maintain neighbourhoods properly;
  • Clear Signs, to ensure signs are clean, correct and undamaged.

    Pride in Our Town has already shown signs of success with villagers in Bleadon collecting four dustbin bags of litter from verges in the area, and planting flowers to brighten the area up.
