Sticking to their campaign

The latest weapon in the fight to save a hospital maternity unit is... stickers.

The campaign stickers have been produced by the Hemel Hempstead Gazette, which has already set up an online protest petition and a campaign diary.

Public meetings about the proposed closure of Hemel Hempstead's Maternity and Special Care units have been held this week and more are promised.

The latest news is that health Minister Lord Philip Hunt has ordered an independent inquiry into the health authority plans - in a move which means the wards' closure has been put on hold.

The inquiry could still rule in favour of closures and protesters are urging local people to continue campaigning strongly.

The petition to save the units now has more than 27,000 signatures.
