The Yeovil Express has teamed up with MP David Laws to campaign for easier access to NHS dentists.
More than 500 people have signed up to the protest petition so far, which will be sent to Mr Laws.
The Express, along with its sister paper the Chard and Ilminster News, took action after it was revealed that no dentists in the Yeovil constituency were taking on new NHS patients.
Editor-in-chief Ken Bird said: "There is a very real problem about NHS dentistry provision in the area and we feel our readers can help Mr Laws in his campaign.
"I am delighted that so many of our readers have given their backing to Mr Laws.
"It is obvious that this issue is very serious and already more than 500 people have signed the petition."
The MP replied: "I am encouraged that you are highlighting this very important and serious issue.
"Many constituents have either to face the cost and inconvenience or lengthy journeys by public transport, or go without."
In the long-term he is hoping to make it easier for dentists to set up in the area but is lobbying for short-term emergency aid to boost the capacity of existing practices.
