Evening Telegraph appeal aims high

The Evening Telegraph has joined forces with Myton Hospice to launch Coventry's biggest-ever fund raising appeal.

The paper aims to raise £5m to build a hospice for the city, to provide care for 20 terminally people.

It is hoped the money could be raised within three years and that the new care unit might even be ready before the city's planned new superhospital.

Launching the appeal, the paper said: "The generosity of Coventry people has proved itself second to none in the past. The city has a reputation as a place where people care.

"The hospice would make such a difference to families whose loved ones are dying.

"The magic £5m target is a huge challenge. Together we can do it."

Gill Young, chief executive of the Warwick-based Myton Hamlet Hospice, said: "This is a big challenge but we are confident the people of Coventry will be behind us."
