Press campaigns which have fought for good causes will be celebrated during Local Newspaper Week.
The annual Newspaper Society event, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, will be themed 'Campaigning for your Community'.
In the run-up to the week, to be held from May 5 to 11, a website will be highlighting the best local media campaigns.
The Newspaper Society is now calling for editors to get in touch and show off their hard work.
Society communications director Lynne Anderson said: "Local and regional newspapers are champions of campaigning and the past year has seen some brilliant examples on a wide variety of issues, from the Iraq war to the story of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
"Previous years have shown that both readers and advertisers respond positively to Local Newspaper Week which aims to promote the strengths of local and regional press and celebrate the medium.
"But the week relies on newspapers participating so editors are urged to get in touch with the Newspaper Society and tell us about the campaigns they have run over the past year for inclusion in our showcase."
Material provided by the Society will include artwork, testimonials from members of the public and organisations that have benefited from local media campaigns and comment from high-profile figures.
Last year, Local Newspaper Week had an environmental theme and hundreds of newspapers took part running environmentally-themed editorial and advertising features, supplements and news stories.
Editorial provided by the Newspaper Society for members to use during the promotion included comments from Prince Charles, David Miliband MP and Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.
The dedicated website - www.localnewspaperweek.co.uk – is due to go live shortly.
