Observer appeal beats charity target by £3,500

The Chichester Observer has helped dreams come true for seriously and terminally-ill children through its first major Christmas appeal.

The aim was to raise £5,000 to boost the work of the charity, Midhurst-based Dreams Come True, through a "make and bake" concept dreamt up especially for the charity.

It invited individuals, companies, schools and organisations to get baking and raise funds for the cause.

It was launched in November by Dame Kelly Holmes and the response was fantastic, including a Rolls-Royce cake created by local company More Food - a masterpiece of the bakers' art which together with a Spirit of Ecstasy donated by Rolls-Royce, sold to Midhurst estate agents Strutt and Parker for a welcome £1,000.

The target was reached just before Christmas but by the end of January, and with a number of onging events still taking place, the total raised is expected to top £8,500.
