Ten thousand needed for appeal milestone

An appeal to boost care facilities at a midlands hospice is looking forward to smashing the £100,000 barrier early in the New Year.

The Evening Mail's Acorns Hospice fund has already reached £90,000 in only two months, thanks to generosity of readers across the West Midlands.

The success means the Selly Oak hospice will be able to continue extending its care and facilities to even more terminally-ill children and their families.

Director of fund-raising, Simon Burne, told readers: "There's been a fabulous response, both from the families who have been involved in helping us to publicise the work of the hospice, and from the many schools and work colleagues who have backed us through fundraising events.

"Thanks to the Evening Mail appeal lots of people have promised to carry on supporting us into next year to keep the money rolling in. We're absolutely overwhelmed."
