Taw bridge chance from BOB campaign

A new bridge over the River Taw could be built after pressure from a North Devon Journal campaign.

More than 600 readers responded to a call to Build our Bridge.

The newspaper has been campaigning for a new bridge and bypass to ease traffic problems in the Barnstaple area.

And this week, managing editor Andy Cooper will post coupons and petitions filled in by Journal readers to Transport Minister Lord MacDonald.

He is due to make a decision on funding for the project in the next few weeks.

Readers have already helped win planning permission for the scheme by writing letters of support to the paper last year.

As well as the coupons and petitions, the newspaper has also printed a series of postcards with the campaign message on the front.

Readers can order the cards by phoning the newspaper offices. The idea is to fill them in and send them back by Monday December 4.
