The latest incarnation of the 'chain letter' phenomenon has hit Gloucester - but the Citizen has vowed to stop it in its tracks.
The move came after a six-year-old girl was sent a chain letter which claimed to be an attempt to break the world chain letter record.
The newspaper originally launched its Break the Chain campaign four years ago after a series of worrying chain letters were sent to addresses in the area.
It managed to break a number of chains, many of which offered cash rewards or made sick death threats.
Since then, the advent of e-mail and the Internet appeared to have put an end to the chain letter.
But with this new version arriving in the county, the newspaper has decided to resurrect its campaign.
The Citizen has appealed for anyone who receives a similar letter to send it in its offices where it will be destroyed.
Post Office spokesman Adrian Booth said: "This is not the worst case of a chain letter but essentially we think the best policy for chain letters is to throw it in the bin."
