We Can Do It strikes early success

The News in Portsmouth has enjoyed a successful start to a new campaign to unite the local community

We Can Do It sets out a range of initiatives to celebrate all that is good about the area.

These include awards for unsung heroes, campaigns for local causes and highlighting of charity groups' work.

After day one of the campaign a local supermarket pledged equipment to a nearby community centre and several businesses expressed an interest in making Havant a Britain in Bloom town.

In addition, traders have organised two raffles for the Fareham-based KIDS charity and nominations have flooded in for the 'unsung hero' awards.

The News said: "We believe it's time we shouted a bit louder about the good work going on to improve the quality of life for all our communities, and pushed for ideas that could make a difference.
