Sentinel piles pressure onthe Government

The Sentinel has launched a campaign to put pressure on the government to build a new hospital in North Staffordshire.

The Stoke newspaper is printing a series of features to highlight the need.

And readers are being urged to put their name to a petition organised by the Sentinel, available at newsagents across North Staffordshire.

The government has money to build 18 new hospitals but 24 applications have been made to the government.

Health Minister Alan Milburn will decide early next year which areas will be given new hospitals and the Sentinel is determined that Staffordshire should be one of the places on the list.

The newspaper claims that existing medical facilities are outdated and an insult to local people.

It said: "The sad fact is that he who shouts loudest will usually win over those who politely wait for fortune to favour them.

"We need every reader to join us in telling the Prime Minister and Mr Milburn that our present buildings are not only a disgrace but an affront to the people of North Staffordshire."

The Sentinel has promised a series of revealing features that highlight the need for a new hospital.

It said: "We will present chilling and irrefutable evidence to demonstrate exactly why our medical facilities need drawing out of the Victorian era."
