Pub chain boost for Herald Express campaign

Pubs in the South West are showing their support for the an anti-drugs campaign from the Herald Express.

The Torquay newspaper launched its Drugs Don't Work campaign to boost the information children are given about the damage drugs can cause.

Now 40 pubs in the area are to hold fundraising activities to raise more cash to help the cause.

Money raised by the campaign will be given to a mobile unit which goes around local schools giving help and advice.

A donation has already been promised by the owner of the Peninsular Inn chain of pubs, Barry Fryer.

Barry, whose daughter Rebecca died of a heroin overdose, has committed himself to giving £30,000 to help over the next five years.

And all pubs in the chain will be hosting events to give the campaign even more momentum.

Barry said: "I will just be pleased if I can do some good.

"I am trying to give this as much publicity as I can and I only hope it does have an affect."
