Readers of the Preston and Leyland Citizen are being urged to write to their county council to register disapproval at plans to build giant incinerators across the county.
The newspaper made the appeal after lending its own support for pressure group ARROW - Action to Reduce and Recycle Our Waste.
The group has condemned the Lancashire County Council's waste management group, which looks set to recommend building the incinerators to tackle the huge amount of waste in the area.
ARROW claims that cancer and leukaemia cases around incinerators are double the normal level and want the council to invest more money in recycling instead.
Members contend that that recycling systems are available which are capable of dealing with 80 per cent of waste.
Now the Citizen has added its voice to the argument and is calling on readers to send letters to councillors to try to force a rethink.
