Almost nine out of ten holdthefrontpage.co.uk readers are satisfied with what they get out of the website, according to our recent survey.

But despite the encouraging figure, we are now preparing to act on the areas that people believe we could improve on.

Out of 568 replies to our research, 87 per cent said they were "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with holdthefrontpage.co.uk.

Just 1.4 per cent were unsatisfied, with 8.5 per cent undecided.

Publisher Patrick Astill said: "I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to complete our survey.

"We know there was a wide cross-section of regional newspaper people as well as people from other areas of the industry, and the results made for very interesting reading.

"We decided not to over-analyse the results, because of the nature of the sample, in that it was voluntary and we were relying on people to be honest. But we felt the figures gave a realistic indicator of what people in the industry really think.

"We also asked people about what they think to holdthefrontpage, and we're planning some exciting developments to tailor the site more to what our readers say they want."

The poll showed that 75 per cent of respondents visited holdthefrontpage.co.uk at least once a week, a quarter visiting every working day.

Similarly, 62.8 per cent of people who took part read our job vacancy pages at least once a week, 15 per cent visiting that part of the website every working day.

The survey took the opinions of 181 reporters, 75 students, trainees and juniors, 68 sub-editors, 53 editors and 69 other management/newsdesk people.

Forty-five per cent of respondents were aged 25-34, 20 per cent were 16-24, 16.9 per cent 35-44, 11.6 per cent 45-54, six per cent were 55+.

Daily regional newspaper staff accounted for 197 respondents, while a further 191 work in local weekly newspapers. There were 72 responses from freelances, 45 people work for magazines, with 27 from the nationals – exactly the kind of breakdown we would expect from HTFP readers.
