Morning newspapers in ABC gains:Full details on the latest figures

The results are released against a backdrop of difficult market conditions and the reduction in spending on the high street has affected newspaper sales as it has other consumer products.

Almost every evening newspaper suffered a downturn in the figures.

The Argus in Brighton saw a 10.9 per cent fall in circulation to 36,854 year-on-year.

The Lancashire Evening Post fell 10.2 per cent to 38,237.

The Norwich Evening News lost 9.9 per cent of its sales, down to 26,771.

The Birmingham Evening Mail sales declined by around 10 per cent year-on-year to 94,339 from 104,219.

The Ipswich Evening Star has fallen 9.2 per cent to leave it with sales on 23,140.

The Yorkshire Post saw a fall of almost nine per cent to just over 50,541 copies.

The Yorkshire Evening Post dropped 8.5 per cent to around 69,000 copies.

The Reading Evening Post fell away by 8.1 per cent, to 18,425, the Bath Chronicle dropped 7.5 per cent, selling 13,686. The Coventry Evening Telegraph dropped 7.3 per cent to 57,000 and the Bradford Telegraph & Argus has dropped 6.2 per cent to 43,696.

The top performers among the regional mornings were:

Western Mail (+4.1 per cent Mon-Fri and 3.1 per cent Mon-Sat),
Liverpool Daily Post (+2.4 per cent Mon-Fri and 1.3 per cent Mon-Sat),
Ulster Newsletter (1.9 per cent Mon-Fri and 1.1 per cent Mon-Sat)
Paisley Daily Express (+0.5 per cent Mon-Fri and 0.8 per cent Mon-Sat).

Trinity Mirror publishes five of the top six morning titles in terms of growth.

The fastest-growing evening titles were:

Carlisle News and Star East (+3 per cent Mon- Fri and +2.8 per cent Mon-Sat),
Belfast Telegraph (+1.8 per cent Mon-Fri and 2.2 per cent Mon-Sat),
Scunthorpe Telegraph (1.5 per cent Mon-Fri)
Newcastle Evening Chronicle (+0.2 per cent Mon-Friday and +0.2 per cent Mon-Sat). The largest evening newspaper is the London Evening Standard, followed by the West Midlands Express and Star.

Best performers among the weeklies were the Foyle News (+19 per cent), Orkney Today (+13 per cent), and Frome & Somerset Standard (+10.3 per cent).

The Kent Messenger remains the largest paid-for weekly title, followed by the Mansfield Chad and the West Briton.

Regional Sunday newspapers have done particularly well this period, with the best performers being the Sunday Journal, (+65.5 per cent), The Sunday World, Northern Ireland edition (7.5 per cent), Wales on Sunday (+7.4 per cent), Sentinel Sunday (+3.5 per cent) and Sunday Life (+0.4 per cent). The largest regional Sunday newspapers are the Sunday Mail, Scotland, and the Sunday Post.
