Redesign makes Gazette 'more reader-friendly'

The Western Gazette has undergone a redesign to give the newspaper a sharper and fresher feel.

The Yeovil-based newspaper has taken on a more modern look, with the main book, motors and property supplements all taking on new branding.

The changes include a return to a black masthead on a less cluttered front page, and the introduction of 11 changes to front page Solus advertising - each from a local edition area and each supporting the local identity of the edition.

  • The new look
  • The redesign is in response to feedback from readers, and was headed up by production editor Pete Brooke.

Editor Martin Heal said: "The paper has a cleaner, sharper look which makes it more eye-catching on the newsagent's counter.

"We are using less colour more effectively and have made the Western Gazette more reader-friendly.

"The newspaper covers 397 towns and villages in Somerset and Rural Dorset and local identity in its 11 edition area is always a challenge."

  • The old-style Gazette
  • The paper's lifestyle, entertainment and sport sections will be updated in the next few weeks.

  • The Western Gazette currently sells an average of 41,704 (ABC July - Dec 2004).

It is published every Thursday and has an average pagination of 140 in its entirety.
