Plea for sponsors ahead of press and media awards

Organisers of a regional press and media awards are appealing for sponsors for the final few prizes ahead of next week's ceremony.

The Birmingham Press Club is hosting its seventh Midlands Media Awards in the Second City on Thursday evening and still needs backers for five prizes – guest tickets are also still available.

Confirmed sponsors include Birmingham International Airport, BMI, Birmingham City University and the city council.

Any business interested in getting involved is asked to contact Denise Mickle by emailing awards@birmingham-press-club.co.uk or calling 07973 710504.

Guest tickets are also still available for the event which starts at 6.30pm, at New Bingley Hall, Birmingham.

For more information and to book email tickets@birmingham-press-club.co.uk.

It's very tough trying to get any kind of sponsorship right now. All the usual excuses - blanket ban on sponsorship this year, no budget, budget cut, budget all allocated, not our kind of thing, too expensive even when all you're looking for is £500. All sponsored events now go right to the wire with phone calls trying to get the last few thou needed. None of the newspaper owners have any cash to sponsor anything. I'm selling sponsorship, and that's my experience so far.

Yes,times are tough, but maybe you should look at what you are offering sponsors - who can they meet that they can't get to under normal business arrangements; letting them exhibit in the foyer; feature areas of sponsorship i.e.communications section - approach obvious sponsors and their competitors;let them nominate a speaker during the ceremony....have you approached the bigger charities - they may be able to pay £500 to provide a speaker in exchange for the exposure... keep up the good work
