The second Guardian International Development Journalism Competition is open for entries.

With prizes for both amateur and professional reporters, the competition celebrates journalism highlighting issues affecting the developing world.

Reporters are asked to submit stories on one of 16 different themes including climate change, deforestation, education for street children, rehabilitation of child workers and women's rights.

The competition is run in partnership organisations such as the British Red Cross, African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF), Farm Africa, International Childcare Trust and One World Action.

All entries must be between 650 and 1,000 words and submitted by 22 June.

A shortlist of 16 writers – eight amateur and eight professional – will be selected from a longlist of around 40 finalists all of whom will see their work published on guardian.co.uk.

The 16 finalists will be flown to a developing country to research a new feature which will be published in Guardian supplements with the two eventual winners announced in November.
