Prestigious campaigning journalism award now open for entries

Campaigning journalists and publications can now enter a prestigious competition.

Entries are open for the fourth annual Paul Foot Award for Campaigning Journalism.

Individual journalists, teams of journalists or entire publications can enter and submission will be considered for anything from single pieces to entire campaigns.

Last year the prize was jointly awarded to Deborah Wain, from the Doncaster Free Press, and Guardian duo David Leigh and Rob Evans.

This year's judging panel includes Private Eye editor Ian Hislop, Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger and Jeremy Dear, general secretary of the National Union of Journalists.

Paul Foot was an investigative journalist, editor and left-wing campaigner who worked for the Daily Record, the Daily Mirror, the Guardian and Private Eye.

His many high-profile campaigns included the Birmingham Six and the Bridgewater Four. He died in 2004, aged 66.

Entries must have been published in either a newspaper, magazine or online between September 1, 2007 and August 31 this year.

The overall winner will be awarded £5,000 and five runners-up will each receive £1,000 at the ceremony on November 3.

The closing date for entries is September 1 – for further information and an application form visit Private Eye's website.
